Atsushi joined a butoh dance company Hoppo-Butoh-Ha in Hokkaido in 1980 and his last performance with the company“Takazashiki”(1984) was worked on by butoh-founder Tatsumi Hijikata. Atsushi has started his solo work based on the concept of Jinen Butoh since 1986. Throughout 600 places in Japan from 1996 to 1999, he has done“JINEN”tour project, the improvisation dance expressing what he felt from each climate, people, music in Japan. During this time, he studied a spirit of the universe under Kazuo Ohno and Yoshito Ohno. In 1999 (-2000), he held“Sun & Moon”tour project and danced in nature and historical site in 12 countries around Europe and Southeast Asia. Based on his experience, he defined the infinite variety of minds and movements which occur from the association with every status and environment as ‘the basic of Jinen Butoh’and viewed those movements as universal body language and applying it to the works collaborating with dancers and actors in various countries.
