A Photograph Collection, TOHOKU, by Tatsuki Masaru

Earth of the People Never to Be Conquered

Lives led with modest happiness, anger and sadness, always in awe and respect of nature.
Capturing the customs, rituals and culture of the people in Aomori, Iwate, Akita, Miyagi, Yamagata and Fukushima, from July 2006 to April 2011.

After the Great East Japan Earthquake, some of the landscapes captured here have been lost forever.

Essay Contribution by Akasaka Norio (Folklorist)
This collection of photographs is entitled plainly, TOHOKU, and is filled with the animalism of the region --- people, objects and landscapes are almost dripping with blood and full of the smell of flesh.
