--- Profile of Yoshiaki Kaihatsu ---
Artist Yoshiaki Kaihatsu was born in Yamanashi Prefecture in 1966. He completed a Master of Arts degree at Tama Art University, where he currently teaches part-time. In 1995-96 he carried out his "365 PROJECT," an exhibition continuing nationwide for 365 days, coverage of which was broadcast on NHK BS. In 2002 Kaihatsu participated in "Dia del Mar//By the Sea" at PS1 MOMA in New York; in 2004, in "The Venice Biennale's 9th International Architecture Exhibition" in Venice; and in 2006, in "Berlin-Tokyo/Tokyo-Berlin" at the New National Gallery in Berlin. He also showed works at "Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial 2006," Jump Ship Rat's "Pop-Up" in Liverpool in 2008, and at a joint Japanese-Chinese exhibition held at 53 contemporary art museums in Guangdong Province in 2012. In 2016 "Yoshiaki Kaihatsu: 8th Grade Syndrome" took place at Ichihara Lakeside Museum. Kaihatsu is now undertaking a lifelong project on the region affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami disaster, also introduced in this book.
